Restaurants in Peace is a web project about restaurants and loss.

(it will probably always be woefully incomplete.)

I set out years ago to map out all of the restaurants that closed at any point in the past. The map for any large city was completely full of points. Every street and street corner had, at some point, housed an establishment that didn't exist anymore.

I was exploring this idea back in 2019... Many, many more places have closed since.

With every restaurant closing, we lose the comfort of a safe place, meals we won't be able to enjoy anymore, and most importantly the connections to the people who were there, toiling for us.

Hopefully this site can move you to share memories about places you miss that aren't around anymore. Maybe some form of community may emerge from all of this, who knows.
